They\u2019re also starting to kill people.<\/p>\n<p>Hackers &#8220;want to go attack folks who are going to pay,\u201d said cybersecurity expert David Malicoat. \u201cThey want that money as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In one case earlier this year, a Michigan woman with low blood sugar went into cardiac arrest and died after a cyberattack targeted the system reporting lab results. A nurse in Kansas said confusing paperwork caused him to nearly give the wrong dose of a drug to a baby in neonatal intensive care. <\/p>\n<p>Both incidents stemmed from an attack on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/mid-south\/ascension-hospital-cyberattack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ascension,<\/a> a Catholic health care system operating more than 140 facilities nationwide.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/business\/ap-business\/ap-business-owners-increasingly-worry-about-payment-fraud-survey-finds\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tBusiness owners increasingly worry about payment fraud, survey finds\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hospitals &#8220;know that if they get attacked, they have minutes, hours maybe, to be able to get \u2026 back online,\u201d Malicoat told NewsNation\u2019s \u201cOn Balance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While private and government groups successfully stop most cyberattacks, Malicoat compares it to being a hockey goalie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey take hundreds and hundreds of shots \u2026 but one or two get by. In cybersecurity, those that get by, those are the hacks. All those attackers have to be is right one time, and they get through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In London, several hospitals were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/business\/tech\/tech-headlines\/ap-a-russian-cyber-gang-is-thought-to-be-behind-a-ransomware-attack-that-hit-london-hospitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crippled by a ransomware attack<\/a> on the blood testing service Synnovis.
